Private Client-Centered Counselling

PRIVATE CLIENT-CENTERED COUNSELLING

My practice is conveniently located at 1849 Yonge Street, in central Toronto. I specialize in the treatment of substance abuse and dual disorders for adolescents, adults and families.

In my experience within the world of addictions, individuals use drugs such as crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, to name a few, and/or alcohol for many reasons. All these reasons can be contained simply into three general themes. These individuals use their mind-altering substance(s) to escape a negative feeling, to obtain a feeling, or simply to escape.

At the beginning of every therapeutic relationship, I conduct a thorough multidimensional assessment that includes several domains aside from my client’s substance use. This allows me to obtain specific information, analyze and connect the information gathered to provide a concise picture of my client’s needs and strengths. Completing the assessment leads to the creation of an effective treatment plan that is client-centred.

I draw from a number of treatment modalities, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and the 12-steps to help my clients overcome their addiction(s), and cope with any other presenting issues, such as depression, past trauma and anxiety.

In therapy, we work together to shine a light of truth on why the client turns to and depends upon mind-altering substances. We examine the reasons for the continued use of substances and harmful behavior, as well as all the internal and external triggers driving the client to abuse alcohol and/or drugs. We then employ a number of evidence-based modalities to stop the continuing use and harm to my client and others in his/her life. I am passionate about helping my client achieve her/his goals and, most importantly, maintaining support through continued therapy and relapse prevention.

You can get help

I know that individuals suffering from alcoholism and addiction can be rehabilitated. It starts by seeking help! There is no shame in asking for help. I will work with my client to overcome the obstacles that prevent him or her from achieving their goals that, in turn, will lead to a much more fulfilled and complete life.
